Lighting the Way for  Music Education Today

The American Center for Elemental Music and Movement is pleased to announce its seventh scholarship award!

This scholarship is for music educators interested in pursuing studies or individual or collaborative projects in elemental music and movement, an accessible approach to music education that develops both personal musicianship and ensemble skills, and has rich artistic rewards. Its appeal is broad, incorporating both music and movement, and reaches diverse populations. This scholarship is intended to help music and movement educators further their studies in order to benefit the students they teach. The maximum scholarship award amount for 2019 will be $1500.

 The Beacon Scholarship may be used for:
  • Courses or training in elemental approaches to music and movement (other than Orff Schulwerk levels courses).
  • Projects of study including music and movement.
  • Advanced study or community outreach rooted in elemental music or movement.

An application for the Beacon Scholarship is available here.  Information on the forms may be saved at any point during the completion process before sending.
The Application Form is part of an application packet that includes:

  • Completed application form (submitted by the applicant)
  • A one to two page essay that includes a rationale for your proposed project or study and an outline or action plan for using the scholarship if granted (submitted by the applicant)
  • A resume or current vitae  (submitted by the applicant)

  • Two letters of reference from a principal, supervisor, program director, colleague or co-operating teacher should be directly submitted as a Word Document or PDF by the persons providing the reference to Kristin Smith, the chair of the Scholarship Committee.  (Submitted separately by the reference providers)
  • Persons submitting the reference should use the link above which will bring them to a fillable form. In the event that the submission is unsuccessful, or technical difficulties arise, please contact Kristin Smith at kristin@acemm.us.

All application materials and letters of reference should be included in the fill-in form on the ACEMM website.

Application Deadline:  Sunday, May 1, 2019.  No applications or letters will be accepted after this date.

Applicants will be notified of decisions via email on or before May 31, 2019.
