Music in Our Schools Month

NAfME  has designated the month of March as a time to feature music education in its many forms.

Did you know that March is also “Art in Our Schools Month” and “Dance in Our Schools Month”?  Over the next few weeks, ACEMM has asked three teachers to share lessons that connect music education with other art forms (visual art, poetry, and movement/dance).

March 13: Music and Movement for the little learners

March 20: Music and Visual Art for the intermediate learners

March 28:  Movement For Everyone!

Advocacy

It’s also a great time of year to bolster the advocacy for music education within our communities.  VH1 has a wonderful (and thorough) “Advocacy Toolkit” to get you started.

In the meantime ACEMM asks :

How do you recognize Music in Our Schools Month?

Some examples we’ve heard include:

  • School assemblies
  • “informances”
  • Special concerts
  • Public performances outside of the school venue
  • Family folk dance nights
  • Artist-in-residence

Please tell us in the comments how you advocate for music and movement programming in your community!

We create the opportunities, YOU make the difference!
